Solved BSOD while playing BFBC2

docellis

New member
I built a new computer in December of 2010 specs are below, I have just cross fired my two Gigabyte HD 5770 1gb video cards in slots one and two on my Gigabyte GA-X58A-Ud3rATX Motherboard, I did notice that card one is pretty tight and close to card 2, but decided to run and see what happens. Everything was working great. No crashes what so ever while running BFBC2.

Then on this Tuesday I bought a new headset a Logitech G930 wireless, then I started to crash about 5 to 10 minutes in games to the BSOD. So I went through all the steps to insure my headset drivers were all up to date and installed correctly and so far I would say they are. So to try to pinpoint the problem I uninstalled my G930 and went back to using my Gamecom headset and I still crash to the BSOD in the same amount of time.

I have updated PB, and all my current video drivers are correct. So I am kind of baffled. I stressed tested my machine playing COD Black ops with no crashes.

I am guessing its either my video cards are over heating because they are close, or my I don't have enough power with my 600W Xtreme Power supply, or its the Logitech headset drivers are still installed somewhere and causing problems, or its just BFBC2.

So anyhelp would be appreciated.

Hello,

Start by testing your temperatures with Speedfan: SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer

I notice PnkBstrB.exe was running at the time of every crash; that may have some significance. Do you know what program that belongs to? If so, just uninstall the program.

While watching Speedfan again, run the three Prime95 tests: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/100352-cpu-stress-test-prime95.html

Also, run Memtest86: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html

PnkBstrB.exe is a program that has to run with BFBC2 to detect hackers on any server, so you can't turn that off.

I ran the stress tests and found my temps to be around 52c to 72c and 72c was the peak.

What also I am looking for?

72 is pretty hot for desktop CPUs; try opening up the case and blowing a house fan right at the motherboard. Run the Prime95 test again, and see what kind of temps you are getting.

If the crash happened with a new head set and driver get driver cleaner and remove every bit of that driver and see if that fixes it

Hello,

I am having the exact same problem as you. My system is very similar to yours. I am running a 750w power supply, so I don't think power is the issue. PnkBstrB.exe seems to be causing the issues for me as well. Do all other games work fine for you? The problem seems to be related to BFBC2 itself.

Yes all other games are working well, MOH and COD Black Ops does not crash the computer and all the stress tests don't crash me either.

I know that BFBC2 really stresses the computer that's the main reason why I built a new computer and its been handling it well until this week.

I am not sure how to remove driver's very well any suggestions or programs to use?

In idle mode my GPU is fine at 37 to 42c and in game while using BFBC2 I am only at 55c and that's not that hot.

Try playing BFBC2 on single player to see if you can replicate the BSOD crash. I've played on single player for about an hour and a half and it is stable. If it continues this way, it would be safe to bet that whatever the problem is only affects online multiplayer. I am going to try finding a server that doesn't have punkbuster enabled to narrow down whether this is a BFBC2 multiplayer issue or a punkbuster issue.

My Computer

OS
Windows 7 Home Premium x64
I have tried online multiplayer on non-PB servers and haven't had a problem. I just played for about an hour on a BC2 server without a single issue. Before that, I played on a Vietnam server by myself for a while without the crash. This doesn't necessarily help us pinpoint whether this is a PB issue or a BFBC2 issue. It does show that the interaction between BFBC2 and PB is causing problems. I've played America's Army with PB without any issues.

GingramF14 guess what? You found the problem... I did the exact same thing as you I played a non-PB server in BFBC2 and no crashes.

In reading some other forums, it looks like people that use Realtek audio from their motherboard and not using a sound card are having our problem. Our community is taking a poll to see if this is correct. I will post my findings here.

What sucks is I can't play on our servers until PB realizes they goofed and fixes the problem.
