hi zigzag,

I'm running Version 6.1 (Build 7000) with an AMD Athlon Dual Core 4200+ and 3 gig of RAM. The crash happens when the system is idle. It was shutting down until I changed the advanced system settings to not automatically restart.

thanks

UM, build 7000 is beta and will time out no later than aug 1, 2009. You should be experiencing random shutdowns abt every 2 hours. It would seem that instead of trying to repair this problem you would want to upgrade to a newer build. If you do you dont want to do an upgrade because you will import your currentproblems. You want to do a clean install. You can verify the timeout by typing winver in search.

Hope this helps

Ken

Yes, you are going to have to reinstall. However, you won't be able to use build 7000, as that is about to expire. Instead, you will need to install the RC version which is officially build 7100. You can still get this (and the associated key) here Windows 7 Release Candidate This comes in the form of a .iso file, which you should burn to a DVD using a suitable program in exactly the same way as you did with build 7000.
