By 2014, less than 20% of devices connected to the Internet will power

Sounds like Microsoft's got some real competition in 2014. In the very near future, for every PC or laptop there will be a Tablet, Smart Phone, Internet Gaming Console, Internet TV and possibly tablets like internet devices built into vehicles.

Sounds about right to me...:p

Total rubbish, PC are here to stay. They will get smaller and more compact eventually. I think the future is solar powered laptops that will be connected to the cloud. You cannot be productive on a tablet pc or phone. It is more for quick access.

Did anybody here actually read the story, or did you just respond with emotion?

Nowhere did it say the PC was going away. It said there would also be many other devices that connect to the Internet. It estimated 80% of devices connecting wouldn't be using Windows. This doesn't say the PC is dead. it's just saying that a lot of other devices will connect to the internet that are not PC's. In fact, the story acknowledges that the "death of the PC" is "greatly exaggerated".

I just get so annoyed when somebody takes a story, such as this, and turns it into something that it's not.

Doing a complete inventory in my house, of things that can access the Internet
1). Sony Playstation 3: Not running Windows
2). Nintendo Wii: Not running Windows
3). Microsoft Xbox 360: Not running Windows
4). Motorola Droid 2 phone: Not Running Windows
5). Apple iPhone 3GS: Not Running Windows
6). Samsung Galaxy Tab : Not Running Windows
7). My work laptop: Running Windows 7
8). My wife's laptop: Running Windows Vista
9). My primary desktop: Running Windows 7
10). My file server: Running Linux
11). My secondary desktop: Running Linux.

So let's see, in my own house, where the PC is nowhere near going away, I'm pretty close to that 20% already in 2011
27% running Windows
18% running Linux
Remaining 55% not running Windows

My Household:

2009 Macbook Pro - uses Windows in a VM
2011 Macbook Pro - uses Windows in a VM
2009 Sony i7 - Win7
2010 Lenovo x100e - Win7
2011 Lenovo x120e - Win7

Motorola Razor - Motorola OS
HTC G2 - Android

I don't play games on consoles, not my thing but as you can see it changes nothing. Even if I continue to upgrade my phones, it'll likely continue to be Android because iOS doesn't offer what I want.

However Windows 8 is, from my understanding intended to support Tablets as well so we really don't know what kind of impact W8 will have on the Tab market.
