Hi Everyone

Hope this is the right place to post given this is my first time round. I have a new application update for an X-Ray machine we use. Unfortunately this application will only allow you to install on WIN7 Pro versions but we run Enterprise with no way to permanently installing a Pro machine.

So here is my question: How can I fool the application into thinking its installing on Windows 7 Pro?

I have already tried the options blow:

1. Change registry setting to Windows 7 pro in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

2. I have used the Windows 7 Downgrade application but not willing to run the upgrade on the machine

I am not aware of any supported method of fooling an application as you desire. An application can obtain such information in a variety of ways, which one being used known only to the developer. I think few applications would be fooled by changes in the registry key mentioned. Making such changes could have unpredictable consequences.

Downgrading an OS seems a sensitive area, particularly when the OS is an Enterprise edition.

What happens when the installation is attempted?
Have you contacted the software supplier about the issue?

Just an idea, would you be able to use that program if you install Windows 7 Pro in VirtualPC or some such?

I don't know the feasibility of this though, so sorry if it is nonsense.
