Can hear friend's background noise on mic (fans, game, etc)

I recently am chatting with a friend who has a headset but I can hear his computer fans and the games he plays in the background, this background noise would be bad if I do co-op gaming & recording with him. What is causing background sounds to be heard on his end? He is using a Logitech H390 USB headset.

His microphone is picking up the background sound. Either the microphone volume is set up too high and/or speaker volume is set up too high. And being too close to the computer can cause that.

His headset has the type of earphones that neatly enclose the ears so I don't understand why it would pick up the game sounds. The sound of the watercooler's fans I can understand but games? I don't get it.

Without knowing what the friend has, we can only guess. Post the PC's Vendor/Model Number and the vendor/model number of the headset.

I'm not exactly sure what it is since he had it custom built but it does use Windows 7. The Logitech USB headset he doesn't know the model because it was a hand me down from one of his friends. I should ask him to ask his friend which model it is.

That's getting closer. Since it was custom built, just the motherboard vendor/model number will help. Logitech USB headphone is enough on that.

Just trying to gather what the actual hardware is.

Does he only hear sounds when in games? I don't know how most games work, and the gaming section of the forum would be the best place for that, as those there would know about gaming sounds.

No, I am hearing his game sounds when we played a game of OpenRA as well, he wasn't hearing anything from my end, it's only his my end I hear stuff. His voice comes out nice and clear but I heard stuff from what would be speakers but what makes no sense is he's using a headset like I am with enclosed ear "muffs".

There has to be a setting in either his PC's audio setup. The headset is probably being set as the default sound playback device and his game sound is being fed, somehow to the head set mic.

I'm just guessing, and although I do a lot of audio support, without seeing his configuration I really can't help.

Can you post a screenshot of his Sound Playback panel and his Sound Recording section, with the USB headset plugged in?

I would have to get him on Skype and use screen sharing to do that, which I will ask next time he's on. Also his audio is onboard Realtek from what I remember him stating.

Edit: Found out the model, it is a Logitech H390.

Edit #2: It may be because his headset is too loud also, not so sure on that.

I'm sorry for bumping this but we are still having this issue. I gave the suggestion he might have his speakers plugged in as well, so we'll see what happens next time we play games (as the game noise was very prominent this time)
