I have installed the MS virtual window with XP mode. I have created a personal admin level user. Can I delete xpmuser that was the original default user? Are there any "gotchas" that result from doing that?

Users in XP mode are like users in any XP system. You can create, edit and delete them as you wish. The one important thing to remember with XP Mode users is that when integration features are enabled the user must have a password in order to log in; login with a user account with no password set is possible only when integration features are disabled.

Thanks. I am thinking that perhaps the fact that every time I start the XP mode, it automatically logs in Xpmuser has something to do with the frequent crashes I am getting. Plus it is a pain to have to log out and log my real user back in every time.

To log in with another account, you do not need to delete the XPMuser. Simply delete Auto Login credentials (XP Mode Settings) and select another user when next time logging in.

Ah well, Xpmuser has already been deleted. Then I needed to register my primary user with the auto login. I'm still getting some crashes. One persistent one is when I try to view a file in a directory on a mapped drive. I'm going to try unmapping and mapping again to see if that helps.

Just tried doing that and it did not help. The error happens whenever I attempt to navigate using windows explorer file manager on the networked drive. If I look at event viewer, I see an error message of: Error code 1000007e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 00000000, parameter3 b520c1a8, parameter4 b520bea4.
which makes no sense at all to me.
In addition, there are warning messages in event viewer.
two of the messages have to do with Fax, which is strange because neither the virtual machine nor the host machine have fax set up (no phone line).
first message: The outgoing routing rule is not valid because it cannot find a valid device. The outgoing faxes that use this rule will not be routed. Verify that the targeted device or devices (if routed to a group of devices) is connected and installed correctly, and turned on. If routed to a group, verify that the group is configured correctly. Country/region code: '*' Area code: '*'
second message: Fax Service failed to initialize any assigned fax devices (virtual or TAPI). No faxes can be sent or received until a fax device is installed.
The other two warning messages have something to do with EvntAgent.
first message: TraceLevel parameter not located in registry; Default trace level used is 32.
Second message: TraceFileName parameter not located in registry; Default trace file used is .
Once again -- I have no idea what they are talking about with Trace.
