Solved Can not assign .cab extension to a program.

Hello,
Maybe someone can help me understand and fix this issue. I use 7-zip for extracting .zip files. Occasionally I have come across a .zip file it would not open. I downloaded the trial Winzip and extracted it. I deleted winzip off the computer. Now I get CCleaner errors on .cab file extension. So I went into Default programs to assign 7-zip to that extension, but that extension does not show up in the file types. Lost, help.

Hello Glenn,

You might see if after downloading and merging the CAB option in the tutorial below to restore it's default associations, it may be listed in 7-Zip under Tools -> Options again.

Of course, I don't know if this is strange or not. Just for grins I went into 7-Zip and had it associate itself with all the file extensions including .cab. Then I went and found a .cab file and hit open with. It showed Windows Explorer as my only choice. When I just clicked open, the .cab opened with Windows Explorer. I am assuming that this is a default setting... My only concern was that CCleaner, and it hasn't happened in a while, showed that the .cab extension was to problem in the Registry Check. It does not now. So I guess it is another case of if it isn't broken I don't have to fix it?? I really don't care all that much what opens the .cab file. Thanks as always for you great assistance, and I have another one to post.

.cab was probably just listed in CCleaner since it was not associated to be opened with anything prior. You should be good to go now.
