Cannot get Outlook to set up in a single data file.

I have the same problem ater upgrading from Vista Business to Windows 7 Pro.

I have an exchange email account and want to add some .pst data files to outlook. Outlook is always freezed after I choose the data file to add and just only come back to normal when I press ESC. I tried every solution in here but it did not work.

Yesterday I tried to uninstall Windows Mobile Device Center and suddenly it worked. I didn't know why but it run smoothly and I can add or remove .pst data files without any problem. However, today when I restart my laptop, the same problem happens again.

Here are some reasons that I guess it can be
- File Indexing problem
- Registry problem
- password remembering problem (since my file has a password but outlook freezes before asking me to fill in)
- compatibility problem

Does anyone have a solution for this, I am going to get mad with this.

Wont help now but...

On my second install of W7...after a few weeks of "experimenting"...I ran the Outlook Connector for my MSN account before the intitial startup of Outlook...guess what....no extra folers. I think that personal folder is created with the intial startup of Outlook. Thing is my wife and I share a computer..two ids...since I started Outlook on my id SHE has that second annoying personal folder thing...oh well...

Finally I got the answer, this is the conflict between HP ProtectTools Security Manager with Windows 7. After uninstalling it, Outlook works well as normal.

Just solution for anyone who is using HP notebook.

A note about getting outlook to work well with IMAP accounts..

Given all the troubles I was having with the IMAP aol account, rather than continue banging my head against the wall, trying to make the IMAP accnt the default account, or figure out how to delete emails correctly, or get it to function like it used to... A solution presented.. What I did was create an email rule that auto forwarded all my mail from the incoming aol IMAP account, into the default pop normal pst file.. In this way, Outlook functions pretty much like normal. When I delete emails, they move to the deleted items folder.. The only draw back, and it is rather small, is that I now have two accounts showing in the email folders, but big deal. This is a solid work-around, and I encourage anyone having this issue to put it to good use...
