Cannot perform a Windows Update. Keep Receiving Error 80070002

I'd appreciate anyone's help with this. I can't do a Windows Update. I keep receiving error 80070002. I've gone and stop Windows Update and deleted the files in the Stored Maintenance and started it back up again but still didn't work. I've seen that you might have to do the registry repairs but I'm scared to mess up since this is a work laptop.

I've even tried to go in under the command prompt and do a CHKDSK C: /R but it gives me a prompt that asks Y or N if they want to run it after I've rebooted. I've done that and nothing changed.

For Windows 7 update problems this will have to be completed. Then wait for our expert to drop by. He is very busy all the time so just hang in there.

Did you or did you not run chkdsk?

If you did what were the results?

I tried to run a chkdsk but got an error message that says "access denied as you do not have sufficient privileges. You have to evoke this utility running in elevated mode"

You MUST use an Elevated Command Prompt - your error is typically caused by not doing so.

To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
