I have a Toshiba satellite L655-S5150 and i have all the cables that the guys at best buy told me to get. I hooked them up but i still cant hear any sound. I had to hook a cable up from my headphone port to the back of the tv but still no sound. I am not to computer savvy so i hope this info helps.

Apparently you do not have an HDMI interface, since you are connecting sound separately. First thing to do is check the connections to the TV (assuming you have the right cables) and then the setup for the TV for the inputs you have connected.

Exactly what did you get from Best Buy?

they gave me a 5FT SVGA VGA Monitor M/M Male To Male Extension Cable USB5 and also and also a cable that plugs into the headphone port in my laptop and then it has 3 plugs 1 white 1 yellow and 1 red that plugs into the back of the tv in the av- audio in- s video. I hope this helps i appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions.

I can see the VGA cable as that is apparently where you are getting the video. But the audio out is only two channel stereo, not sure why you have a cable with three connectors. Red and White are audio. Yellow is for video.

From your description they gave you the wrong cables. I would take the laptop and the cables back to Best Buy and make they hook it up to a TV (if that is even possible with what they sold you).
