So i have a TP link router downstairs and a prolink wireless extender in my room. I pushed the WPS button on the main router and then on the prolink extender and it worked. It automatically connected to the wifi and working. However I want to change some settings on the extender but I can't connect to the IP address of the extender. Which is "192.168.123.253". I can however connect to the default IP address of TP link while I am connected to the extender, which is "192.168.1.1". Does anyone know what I can do to connect to my extender and change the settings?

There are a couple of reasons why you may not be able to connect to the extender

  1. Some routers have problems if you don't use internet explorer to connect, If you are using Chrome try IE
  2. If you have it setup as a switch most SOHO routers disable the settings page
Someone may know your router if you post the make model and firmware version

You could try opening a dos box and type in
Code:
arp -a
and try to connect to any ip that is in the same subnet but not the same as your computer

Its not on the same subnet thats why you cant connect set your ip manual to 192.168.123.250 then it should work

Exactly Samuria, the 3rd set of numbers in your PC`s IP address has to be the same as the extender, then they should be able to communicate.

Anything from 192.168.123.1 to 192.168.123.252 should work, not counting the network ID which is in there somewhere.

If you login to your router, it should show the ip address that it gave to the extender, this should be 192.168.1.xxx, you should be able to ping the extender no problem at that address, but you`ll have to physically attach to the extender and change your ip address and default gateway on your PC to communicate with it using the 192.168.123.253 address.

Once you connect to the extender, it may or may not let you change its ip address to 192.168.1.xxx

I have a DLink Wireless router I use to extend the range on the 2nd floor for my daughters phone and I can`t open it`s web based interface because it`s ip is 192.168.0.1 and my network is 192.168.1.xxx, but I can ping it with the ip address the Verizon Router handed to it.

I could change it`s IP address but it does what I need it to do now, so there`s no need.
