Can't open or move email

When I try and open my email it say "There was an error opening this message" and when I try and move the email I get "error 0x00000000" I have a 64 bit OS and I did a memory check which said my memory is OK.

What everyone else is using for Windows 7 "Windows Live Mail" If there is a better email program please let me know.

I use live email and recommend to all newbees. works great, as far as im know.

what do you mean open and move.
open first then you can saveas some where but move is only within the email it self... like make a new folder and move to.

normally "There was an error opening this message" means the message is not there, or you failed to shutdown email properly and the email is now garbled or the email has been deleted and the header is still in your file. due to improper shutdown.

When I first loaded Windows 7 the OS pointed me to "windows Live Mail" I could use hotmail and a lot of others but I prefer to use the one that the os recommends.

what do you mean open and move.
When you double click on an email it opens up and you can read it.
You can creat a folder and "Copy" all of your email to that folder for archiving.

I understand you and I can move within the email but as I said I can't copy them to a folder which is what I do about once a week for archiving

So I have about a dozen emails which I can't open and your saying just delete them because they are no longer there? So how do you prevent this from happening again?

Golden. Do you have the live client installed on you desktop or are you logging on to the web to get your email. Sounds to me like you have some problems with your settings.

That could be correct however this has never happen to me in all the years I have been using email. (live mail is different)
I can open up a send to myself email and an old email.
So I have about a dozen emails which I can't open and your saying just delete them because they are no longer there? (NO, they might be deleted. 1. live mail only uses your normal email address to obtain from.
2. open your active email account : sample: [email protected] loginto your email there and see if it is actually there.
3. move to your cached email folder: view be detail and see if you can find that email... not named the same.
4. Have you defraged lately. have you checked to see if any files are crosslinked.?
So how do you prevent this from happening again? never 100% positive way... insure you always shut down live mail properly-that is hard to do also. move your email cached to a different HDD location from default. Preferred a different HDD or partition. I never loose EMAil because it is cached on a different HDD.

I think when I rebooted my email might have gotten corrupt because my CPU's seem to be working overtime and nothing was being downloader that I could see. However I put in my Vista OS and got all of my email for the last week right from my ISP provider. I archive my emails just in case something like this or a crash email then I have them all in the next hard drive or other computer. I can even open my email with Word 2007 from the archive folder. I just love redundancy. I think it might be a good idea to have my email cached on a different HDD and to shut it down before re-booting. I’ve been out for 6 years so I’m not up to date on the different kinds of email programs so should I stick with “Windows Live Mail”?

Rule of thumb - don't interrupt Windows if it looks like it is trying to do something - b/c it probably is.

If your ISP supports webmail, see if you can use Vista to push all your email back onto the ISP servers - and then create a new account in WLM and download it all again (that is a long shot).

Another alternative would be to use a second email, such as HoTMaiL or GMail, and have that fetch our mail from your ISP - a bit safer there as you'll always have access to your email when you're online, and with HoTMaiL now supporting POP access and GMail supporting both POP and IMAP access, you can have any program (WLM, Thunderbird, Outlook, etc) download a copy of your email, leaving the original on the servers, without any problems. I have well over 4000 emails in one of my GMail accounts, and it is not even close to using a GB of space, and currently GMail is up to over 7.5 GB per account.

My own solution is this:

• I use all accounts independently of each other.
• I use either POP access or else IMAP (for GMail, I use IMAP and server side filtering, which I just finished setting up yesterday)
• I keep copies online as well as DLing all mail to my desktop

Now, I have my mail at all times. The only thing I don't have is my own ISP mail, as I never use that for anything that is really important.
