Hi.

Logged into my bank acct, and want to d/l my pdf statement, which is a link. I click the link, and I got a message saying "for your protection, IE has blocked you from d/l this file".

I turned off pop-up blocker, but still get that message.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

jasong,
What is saying what?

Do this:
Win | type winver | enter
Use the snipping tool make a snip of the resulting display and upload that snip.

This should eliminate some confusion.

I dont understand.

I have already said that I have Windows Seven Ultimate 64-bit. Why upload a snippet of winver? What confusion is there? It's Windows Seven Ultimate 64-bit

I have gotten help on this forum before; other forum members have been very nice and helpful. Why is now so different?

Have you installed SP1?

Don't get your panties in a wad. We ask for info for very good reasons based upon years upon years of experience.

Very good!

Fully updating your Win 7 cures many problems.

Here's the procedure:

UPDATING YOUR WIN 7
ASSURE THAT YOU RECEIVE ALL UPDATES
WIN | type WINDOWS UPDATE | ENTER |
Change settings (left-hand column) |
checkmark all four of the boxes | OK
button

Approve any dialog boxes presented. Let Windows install any update features.

WIN is the key with the Microsoft flag on top.

INSTALL CRITICAL UPDATES
Check for Updates
(left-hand column)
Install ALL critical updates.
Restart your computer (even if not prompted)

Repeat this procedure until there are no more critical updates.

DO NOT TRUST the “Windows is up to date” in center of dialog. until you see that TWICE IN A ROW!

INSTALL IMPORTANT UPDATES
Use the “critical update” procedure until all important updates are installed.

INSTALL OPTIONAL UPDATES
Use the “critical update” procedure until all optional updates are installed.

Under Optional updates you will be presented with a list of about 34 language updates.
You can hide those updates so that aren't continually notified of those updates. When you click on 34 optional updates are available, then you
a) highlight all of the language updates,
b) right-click anywhere in the highlighted list.
c) click on Hide Updates,
d) OK button.

UPDATE GOLDEN RULES

Install ALL, yes, ALL updates.
This is Win 7 and not Vista or XP (eXPired).

UPDATE IS HUNG –TAKING FOREVER
Hung is very doubtful unless you interrupted updates.

CTRL + SHIFT + ESC key combo will pop-up the Task Manager.
Lo and behold, Windows Update is still running!

You hold down the CTRL and SHIFT keys.
While holding them down, tap the ESC key once.

Oops - was looking at the wrong computer when I did the winver.

It's 6.1 build 7600

Not really looking to do updates here. I did updates about a month ago, and the key here is I am NOT updating to IE9.

Anything else I can do? In the meantime, I found that this works ok in FFox. Any way to get this working in IE?

Thanks.

You want a solid and reliable system without troubles, that requires a full and 100% updated Win 7.

Jasong,

Karl is just trying to help you help him. An updated system eliminates a lot of herrings.

On the other hand, you could simply try two different approaches to your issue at hand.... and then take Karl's advice to upgrade.

  • Try a right mouse click on the link and download it to your computer - then open it locally

  • Set your bank address as a trusted site in IE - It's your bank, you should trust their site... they have your money.
Control Panel/Internet Options, on the security tab, click the Trusted Sites check-mark and then click the "sites" button - add your banks URL in the box.
You can uncheck the HTTPS requirement box at the bottom if the bank URL is vanilla HTTP. I always recheck it after I add a site that doesn't use HTTPS.
Good luck!

Oops - that should have been update and it should have referenced what to update.

Karl said update to Windows 7 SP1. I suppose that could also be considered an upgrade, but I think of upgrades as moving up from Vista to Windows 7 or maybe even moving up from Home to Professional. That's not what Karl (or I) is/are suggesting - just get on the current Windows Service Pack - easily done through Windows Update.

I don't think upgrading to IE 9 was mentioned, but I'll read it again, just in case. Maybe it was offered in WU.

Peace!
