Solved Can't Share Users Files After Leaving Homegroup

I've never seen that type of information left behind in the credential manager. This after trouble shooting and working with Homegroups ever since it's inception. All I ever see is something similar to> MEDIACENTER-PC\HomeGroupUser$

I'd say there was a third party program involved that set up credential for a remote Host on the old Homegroup, which means that part of the old Homegroup was still alive, which would lock down the Users folders unless you rejoined that same Homegroup. Homegroup does have a few glaring faults this isn't one of them that I'm aware of.

The thread is still "open for comments" if you mark it solved
- I've posted in old solved threads a few times.

As the thread opener, you can mark it solved or unsolved at any time.

Glad to see you found a solution and very glad you posted it for others to see
- it might help another member.

Command line? I think I told you I don't know that much about Homegroups. :)
No, I don't know if there is a command line.
If I mark this as solved, can people still add to the thread or is it locked?

Maybe you could provide another piece to the puzzle though.
Chev65 sort of asked about 3rd party software. More of a statement based on his experience.

Was a 3rd party app involved in setting up the homegroup?

I know you were looking everywhere to fix the issue,
Was there a soultion used from another site that might have caused the difficulty you experienced leaving homegroups?

It would be good to know so other members are aware of what caused the anomoly, and point to your solution if ever required. Doesn't have to be a "white paper" - a few notes would be great.

Thanks,

Bill

No third party software was used. I just created a Homegroup from one machine and joined it with another, all from the Control Panel using the Administrator account.

The same for leaving the Homegroup. I just left the Homegroup using the Control Panel.

I'm not even aware of any third part applications that manage Homegroups.

As for input from other sources... I had problems with the samba shares after I setup the Homegroup. I just surfed the web looking for input on this topic and found out that Homegroups pretty much break all other sharing that's non-Homegroup sharing. I just did research though and I didn't play around with it much until after I left the Homegroup and couldn't get legacy sharing to work.

\\remotehost\HomeGroupUser could be something that a Samba host or a third party A/V might leave behind. The credential vault is something that most A/V's would have access to.

Windows has no such settings for a remote host on a Homegroup therefore the problem was due to a third party involvement.

It's actually pretty easy to share Library's with older Op systems in a common Workgroup. You can set up a standard User account using the same User name and password on the Win 7 machine as is being used on the old Op system to gain access to Library's or you can add the "Everyone" share to the Homegroup style share settings so as to give access to Library's from machines that are in the local Workgroup.

Anyway, I'm glad the problem is fixed because this isn't something we normally see here so would have no way of trouble shooting or finding the problem from this end.

The Everyone solution is one I'm trying to avoid. We don't want people who have WiFi network access to see files, so security is a concern here.
