Be sure to wipe the HD with at least one set of zeroes (DISKPART "clean all" command) before reinstalling to overwrite any infected code: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/91339-ssd-hdd-optimize-windows-reinstallation.html

You can copy out files with your Win7 DVD or Repair CD: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/93347-copy-paste-windows-recovery-console.html

Files need to then be quarantined on DVD or external and not plugged into any other machine. Even after running multiple AV's from boot (only method which removes virus hiding places) your data may remain infected: FREE Bootable AntiVirus Rescue CDs Download List

Upon reinstall use free MSE or Avast 5 with Windows Firewall at all times.

Update: Got everything backed up, scanned data..no viruses in it, did a format and clean install of Win7, activated Win7, got all the data back over, added AVG Free, Spybot Immunization, Firefox, reinstalled the Office software.

Everything running like a dream, fast and clean. Thanks to all who posted.

Now I gotta do two upgrades from XP to Win7 (the DVD they had was the family upgrade for 3 machines) wish me luck.
