Solved Changing laptop fan speed

Hi:

Curious as to how I may change my fan speed or the temperature at which it kicks on?

I looked for a setting in the BIOS but didn't see one.

I am running Acer 1.20 on an Acer 7750G.

Perhaps I missed the setting or there is a program that lets you alter this from Windows?

I am currently only running CPUID Hardware Monitor to display internal temps.

Idle temps are maxing around 55 C and minimum 43 C. Does that seem high?

That sounds normal for laptops...just checked with speed fan to see if I could control my fans...fans don't even show up. I'll need to do some investigating to see what's up with that. The only other alternative is to use a external fan...laptop chill pad or laptop cooler. I use one with my laptop at all times....$25 is a good investment for that.

I had to look very carefully in my BIOS, under advanced...and there was an option to set fan speed to low or auto. Low was a continuous steady speed and auto was cycling the fan on and off. Mine was set to auto by default.

Good program suggestion...the only problem is that speedfan doesn't work with most laptops...should say the one's I've worked with. Even my personal laptop using speedfan doesn't yield anything for fan senors.

Same for me. I installed Speed Fan and it couldn't recognize my fan.

I do own and use a cooling pad. It helps a bit.

I'll check the advanced settings in my BIOS again. Maybe I just missed it the first time.

Occasionally, BIOS updates can solve things like fan speed. Dell released an update for my laptop that did just that. However, flashing your bios can go wrong and turn your pc into an expensive brick. Do bios flashing at your own risk.
