Solved client machine using wrong network ID using ODBC ???

HI all,

First post, i've been searching but wording this in a way similar to someone else has beaten me thus far.....

I have a windows7 client that was initially called wrt2012 on our domain, i renamed the machine to wr5 when i was happy it was working ok (it was my guniea pig machine !) but now when i try to establish an ODBC connection to an SQL server i get the following error:

Connection failed:[HY000][MSQL][ODBC 3.51 DRIVER] Host 'WRT2012.<domain name removed.com>' is blocked because of many connection errors; unblockwith 'mysqladmin flush hosts'

Can someone explain where this is broadcasting the machine name WRT2012, i.e the old client name from so i can delete it ?

We dont use Dynamic Hosting as there are only 6 clients and 3 servers, the issue seems to be generated from this client machine

Fixed it !

I've fixed it, it wasn't actually a windows7 error <phew> but looking around the net lots of people are reporting this error so here's what i found.....


I used mysqladmin and ran te flush-hosts command to reset the failed connection attempts, this alone didn't work, but whilst browsing mysqladmin i noticed that under my username it had an ip registered 192.168.0.2_

When i built the windows7 clients i used 192.168.0.3x so i added 192.168.0.3_ to my username hosts and hey presto i'm in !
