The members and quests who use this forum know how professional, informative and helpful it is!

In order to help members solve their WU [Windows Update] problems/issues we often ask them to run certain programs and perform certain tasks and then upload [post] the results. To help make doing these easier and possibly avoiding typing errors I have written the following batch script that collates all the data required to try and resolve the WU problems/issues and saves it into a compressed desktop folder ready to upload to the forum [see Upload to SevenForums below] for us to look at!

I have included descriptive text to make it easier to understand what is going on, and when!

There is a small amount of user interaction required. The first being whether to REBOOT NOW or not after SFC has finished running, and the second is when running SFCFix, but other than that the rest of the batch script runs automatically.

NOTE: It is advisable to SAVE & CLOSE ALL PROGRAMS before running the batch script!

IMPORTANT: You MUST download the following files to the DESKTOP ONLY FIRST:

SFCFix => SFCFix.

AND EITHER . . .

SURT 32-bit download => SURT for Windows 7 x86-based Systems (KB947821) [October 2014].

OR . . .

SURT 64-bit download => SURT for Windows 7 x64-based Systems (KB947821) [October 2014].

The batch script performs the following processes:

[1] Runs SFC [System File Checker].
[2] Extracts the ERRORS ONLY from the CBS.log.
[3] Runs SFCFix [by Niemiro as recommended by @Snick].
[4] Runs SURT [System Update Readiness Tool].
[5] Creates a compressed WU_Problem desktop folder.
[6] Copies the following required files into the compressed WU_Problem desktop folder . . .

CBS.log.
CBS_ERRORS.txt.
CheckSUR.log.
CheckSUR.persist.log.
SFCFix.txt.
WindowsUpdate.log.

[7] Deletes the SFCFix system root folder.

NOTE: This whole process could possibly take about 30 minutes, so be patient!

I hope you find the batch script useful!

For those of you who are confused by the above post by Snick, he has his own set of tools which you can get to via his signature.

My batch script is an all-in-one utility program which only collates the data needed. It does not use the whole of the CBS folder so there is no need to delete any .CAB files. There is no need to zip/compress the folder because my batch script produces a compressed WU_Problem desktop folder ready to be uploaded.

All you need to do is run my batch script and then upload the compressed WU_Problem desktop folder.
