If you get a new PSU with a Minimum of a 550 Watt & have a open PCI-Express 2.0 x 16 slot
you should be OK

More importantly, does your case support ATX PSU's?

I helped a friend install a new PSU on his HP :insert model here: a couple of weeks ago, and his case didn't support ATX's PSU's.

Unfortunately s stated above most Dells have their own PSU's made so you have to make sure your case will accommodate a ATX power supply.
They do this so your limited to what you can upgrade and force you to go to them to get any upgradeable parts.

Your best bet would be to contact Dell directly.

They have some sort of chat support service IIRC.

im thinking of getting a new psu

I'm not dead certain of this, but I believe that a 580s (slimline) does not use a standard PSU. It appears to be significantly smaller.

Sorry.
