Compiling an MP3 list in MS Excel or other

Hi there...

I'm running Win7 Home Premium (64-bit) and MS Office 2007.

I have a number of DVD's containing around 400 MP3 tracks each.

What I'd like to do is create one simple list so I can find which DVD holds a particular artist & track without having to trawl through each DVD!:eek:

All I'd have to do is open the document and search alphabetically...not much to ask, huh?

I figured I could do this via an Excel spreadsheet but can't see how that could be achieved.

All I want is a quick reference list for easy access...

Can anyone suggest a solution via Excel or some other wonderful, simple and preferably free program?

It's be easy enough in Excel. Just have a page for each disc, enter track number in one column and title in another, artist in another etc. Then add filters to the header row and you can filter any column you like to appear in whatever order you like. You can even filter down to songs by certain artists, albums etc.

Boozad: you don't mention how, after inserting a DVD, Excel recognises its contents. Or am I missing something?
Trendy: The Directory List/Print looks interesting and clearly would fit the bill...

Hi there

With MP3 tracks -- OK you need to set it up ONCE first -- but why not use a program (Free) like mp3tag

Mp3tag - Download

(Click on English to get the English version of the site)

Then you can export fields etc to your EXCEL --- Job done.

OK you need a one time shot to build the Database or collect the data but I think you'll find this worthwhile as it's very flexible and easy to update.

Hi jimbo...thanks for the link etc
I've used 'MP3Tag' for a couple of years now and it's a very useful program.
However, getting things over to Excel is not quite as easy as you make out.
There's plenty of stuff online to indicate that...as I've found out myself after giving it another shot.
Directory List & Print I've found has limitations sadly.
'Media Monkey' (not free) does it superbly with no fuss...as does MP3 Tag Clinic (some versions now free)...which is how I've managed to sidestep MP3Tag and solve the problem!!
Thanks again for the input though...hopefully this'll help anyone else in the same position...
