Completely Stop Windows Media Player 12 Library

how can i completely stop windows media player 12 from placing everything into my library. i just spent 10 minutes deleting all the pictures that wmp12 somehow gathered from my computer and then had to watch it re-add them to it's library.

i took all folders out of pictures, music and video libraries. still no luck.

I have had similar issues. Also, windows media player will not retain it's library. Every time I close it, when it is reopened, it has to reload the entire library which takes a few minutes, just like the first time it was opened. How do I get windows media player to retain its library?!

From WMP, click Organize>Manage Libraries and go on your way from there. You can manage what is added to your library there.

This problem was driving me nuts until I discovered this solution...

Here's how I finally got Windows Media Player to retain my library:

1. In Windows Media Player, right-click the menu bar (just below the title bar). Select File, then Manage Libraries, then Music.
2. My Music is listed. Click Remove to remove it (along with any others you may have added previously) .
3. Close WMP.
4. In the Start menu, run services.
5. Stop the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service.
6. Type %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\ into a Windows Explorer window.
7. Move or delete the Media Player folder.
8. Start the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service.
9. Start WMP. Right-click the menu bar, select File, then Manage Libraries, then Music.
10. Click Add, and point it to your music folder (mine was My Music).

As far as I know, if you don't want to use any libraries in WMP12, you can't use the Libraries feature of Windows 7 either, as it seems that these two are directly connected, which means that one is influenced by the other. If you add a music folder to the Library feature of Win7, it will also show in WMP12 whether you like it or not. So, besides music, I just ignored other libraries that show up in WMP12.

This seemed to work for a while but then a few days back I booted up and guess what...? The library was once again empty and I spent the next 40 minutes waiting for it to recatalogue my vast music collection...

I've now removed all other libraries for pictures and videos as suggested in another post and I'll see if that helps. In the meantime I wish the geniuses at Microsoft would pull there finger out and sort out this seemingly common issue... It's driving people nuts...!!!
