...in all that time I've never lost even one bit of data, thanks to a great backup scheme. And in all this time, I've never had to buy even one piece of software. The DOS program "XCOPY" does all my backups for me. * And YES, xcopy still runs, even on Windows 10.
* Xcopy can be programmed to do progressive backups, by only copying new files, and files that have been changed, like an EXCEL Spreadsheet, that changes several times a week.
That also keep my backup time down to just a few seconds.

I also have written a batch file that used Xcopy to do my backups, an Incremental (using the /M switch) or a Full (first use ATTRIB +A *.* /s ).


But I have re-written it to use RoboCopy instead of Xcopy. Both have the /M switch, but RoboCopy is like Xcopy on steroids.

... Sounds like you're backing up all the data files that actually mean something to you. I like to keep it simple, by storing all my data files under the "My Documents" heading (folder) so all I have to do is backup that folder ...

hmmmm, that just gave me an idea. All my stuff ('My Music','My Documents', 'My Videos', etc.) is in C:\Users\MourningStar. Maybe I just backup 'MourningStar'?

p.s. I get the impression most here consider W10 to be around for the long-haul?

Thank you all for your helpful input. The Karen Replicator suggestion looks promising. I will research it further. Good to learn my back-up procedure is not as 'goofy' as I suspected.

well, ... 10 is already 5 years old. XP was the longest running OS (13 years from original release?). Will 10 outlast XP? (time will tell)

My machine is still factory-stock with all original equipment, not one single day out of service. Oh, and it was off-the-shelf from one of those '"stores that sell crappy PCs".
