Confused about my version of Windows

Hi all

this is probably a really basic question. I bought my laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed. It didn't come with an CD (in fact it doesn't even have a CD/DVD player - it's a netbook).

Recently I started having disk corruption problems, and now it looks like my HDD is about to permanently fail (checked with Crystal Disk info, and have been unable to take a disk image with either Macrium Reflect or Acronis True Image due to disk errors), so I've just bought a replacement SSD, which I hope to install this weekend. I have a Recovery USB that I built and installed from Windows 7 Direct Download Links, Official Disk Images from Digital River

Because I haven't got a disk image to restore from, I've obviously going to have to do a fresh install of Windows. My question is: how does it work? Do I need to buy another version of Windows or is my licence still good?

We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.

You can order Microsoft official OEM Recovery disks from your OEM manufacturer's website.

Hi,
I'm sure the device has a usb port
That is what you would download windows home premium on and boot to that to do a repair install or fresh install,

Others are more familiar with the exact process and I'll leave that to them to correct me but that the basics,

Thanks for the replies guys. No, I don't have any recovery disks, but I do have a recovery USB. Is that good enough to do the job?

Hi,
Yes you would substitute every reference to a disk for your flask drive
Make a clear note of which port letter your flash drive appears as D-E-F-... because that's what you'd be booting to
