Running Acer Aspire one, Win 7 starter, IE.
While downloading Bittorrent I acquired several nasty programs. The two most insidious are v9.com and YouTube accelerator. I have tried normal uninstall but rather then removing these programs they now do not show up on the list of programs, but still take command of browser. I routinely use Firefox, but the malware problems led me to uninstall hoping to rid myself of these two programs. After Firefox removed calling up IE showed I was still infected. Used numerous malware removal software(s) with the final outcome being IE now does not connect to internet.
I have three machines, Acer Chromebook on WiFi, Mac on ethernet hard wire, both working flawlessly. So it is not a problem with the internet connection.
What happens now when trying to launch IE is the browser opens , automatically calling up the v9.com url, even though the program was supposedly uninstalled and google.com is the listed start page. Within a short time the page notifies me unable to connect to v9.com due to no internet access. Checking the machine's wireless connection shows it is in fact connected.
I'm not very computer savy, so please keep any suggestions as if explaining to a DUMB 3rd grader.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum Jorge10X,

You could take a look at these tutorials.

Please upload your msinfo file as well.

MSINFO32:
  • Please go to Start and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
  • Save the report as an .nfo file, then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.
  • Also, save a copy as a .txt file and include it also (it's much more difficult to read, but we have greater success in getting the info from it).

Thank you for suggestions, nothing worked. Reading some suggested links I tried the following:
Going to Internet Options -
General- shows the homepage as //go:Microsoft.com/FWLink/p/?linkid=255141
Connections- under "Setup" tells me "already connected to internet", clicking on "Browse Internet" tells me "The wizard cannot create the connection"
Under LAN Settings - tried with all boxes unchecked, tried with checking "use automatic configuration script" Address 208.67.222.222, tried checking "use a proxy server". With all the different configurations IE still opens to URL V9 Portal Site ? My Homepage ? The best and most complete navigation site of the US! and states "This page cannot be c"

Going into Task Manager, "networking" shows wireless connect connected with 65 Mbps

To test TCP/LP configuration at cmd line entered IPconfig, comes back
"Wireless Lan adaptor wireless network connection"
Media state: Media disconnected

Then entered ping 127.0.0.1 which returned 4 replies
Then entered ping 192.168.1.1 (default gateway) which returned 4 replies

Then tried "netsh winsock reset" at cmd ln, "requested operation requires elevation (run as administrator)"

Nothing seems to work!

All suggestions appreciated.

I figured out how to run cmd ln as administrator, ran netsh winsock reset and restarted computer. That fixed the connection problem.
Thanks for your suggestions

v9.com How do you remove

While downloading Bittorrent I acquired a webpage hijacker called v9.om. It forwards my browser to their page, regardless of what is listed as homepage. Using uninstall I thought it was removed, but it continues to hijack the browser. I can't find any evidence of the v9 program. I've tried Bit Defender, Malwarebytes, and My TurboPC but can't seem to dislodge this pest.

Any help appreciated.

I just did it with my friends computer with different highjacker, so go here:
V9.com Virus Removal | Virus-Experts.com
and follow instructions for manual removal. I choose manual because he is cheap (some ask for money to activate program) and I don't like installing all kinds of programs, if I can do it by hand knowing what is done. You could google somebody else for help with this, I used them once so not much experience, but it worked.

As long as one uses Bittorrent or the like they will keep getting infections.

Googling for a solution I came across many sites that simply offered advice on how to "uninstall", all the while hawking their own brand of "free" software.

PCRisk.com, written by Tomas Meskauskas is different!
Taking the time to fully read the site below:
V9.com Redirect - how to remove?
contains the answer to remove v9.com redirect without using any additional software.
Worked like a dream.
