Help! First of all, I am very light in computer knowledge; therefore I need as simple directions as possible. For the last month or so my computer has been freezing constantly. I have to manually shut it down. When I run a diagnostic it shows only that I have too many start up programs, I have hundreds of errors in the event log but a few are critical 100 Boot. I do not know which start up programs are safe to remove. I do not know how to put a screen shot here. My confusion is that the problem is not starting the computer is that it just does not work, when I go to a link it just freezes and even if I do not go to any link, just scrolling. I hope someone can help me before I lose everything. I have a laptop HP and windows 7. Thank you, Ana

To post a screen shot; go to the page, etc. you want to take a screenshot of; press control(ctrl) + print screen. Then, go into paint;(start, programs, accessories, then paint). and once paint is opened; click edit(I believe) at the top and go down to paste; then click paste and that should put the image you want to upload on the screen. Then click file, and then save, and write down where you save the file and for the file name put something you can easily remember. Then, click edit on your post and click the paper clip icon; go to where you saved the file, click on the file name, and then click upload. Post the screenshot and then we can go from there. Hope this helps.

Download Speccy 1.25.674 - FileHippo.com Run this to determine all of your specs and also which temps they are running at, you system could also be chocked up on malware so i'd suggest running these

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
  • After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R#].txt) will open in Notepad for review (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
  • The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.
Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

  • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.

Make sure to run the delete/clean section of both of these programs.

Devlin 1888, I know I do not have any malware in my system. I have Norton 360 last version and also ran the Malware Bytes a few days ago. I cannot follow what you are saying and do not want to load more cleaners (also ran Slim Cleaner a few days ago). Thank you, AG

apologies, Norton isn't exactly on that many peoples recommendation list, it doesn't look for malware as such, malwarebytes is really good but JRT and Adwcleaner look for different things than both programs you mention, i can only highly advise but your decision is your choice:)
