Hello everyone,

Before using a device I would like to make a copy of the factory Windows 7 installation on it to an SD card. This is so that if the aforementioned installation is messed up, say by ransomware or other, it can reinstalled.

How could this be done please?

Thanks

the bigger question is how big is your SD card
There are multiple back-up programs, W7 SP1 can be obtained from Heidoc, then add updates via Simplix. then create your backup

note once you have created your backup -- change your boot order so that either SD or USB is the 1st in the list

32GB SD card, believe the device can only support up to 32GB cards.

Sorry but I have never done a backup before and do not understand much of the process. Why would a W7 SP1 copy be needed to create a backup?

It is a Fujitsu F-07C, with Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit.

If this still has its original Fujitsu installed Windows 7 on it, then it should have an OEM utility to make a 'factory reset' DVD. See this Fujitsu pdf:

If not, then there are any number of third-party tools to make a system image of your current installed Windows, such as Aomei Backupper or Macrium Reflect Free.

Hi 3,
that was unexpected, its a phone, not exactly sure what would happen if you used 1 of the standard Backup programs, Macrium or Ameobi. Both have the ability to image the >>current<< status of W7. thats why i spoke about Simplex, it will bring you right up to date
32gb is pushing the envelope on a 32bit system, my 64 bit OS uses just under 50gb with only about a dozen (12) programs on it it -- whether or not it will complete, im not sure

Bree dont know about that coz its a phone. certainly unlikely it has a creat dvd option

Hi unfortunately there is no way to connect USB devices (i.e an external DVD drive) anymore because the USB portion of the dock connector is broken, and I don't believe the charger micro USB connection can do data transfer.

I do not understand what you mean when you say the current status of Windows 7 torchwood or Simplex, sorry. I can always get a 64gb card should the 32GB not be enough but there are no guarantees then.

As for the third party tools do either of you know if they can make a copy/system image to an SD card specifically?

Hi 3,
current status means what you currently have installed, Simplex "update" includes all updates since MS said goodbye to normal users.
I see no reason why the backup image cannot be transferred to an SD card, they ASK where you would like it sent to

Have a read of this:

I think it would be wise to back up the curently installed 3rd party drivers separately, just in case you ever need to do a clean reinstall.

Also backup the activation,

You can do both of those using dism++ , which is attached attached to the bottom of all my posts

Here are the fujitsu emmc drivers x86 if you ever need them

First ?, why an SD card? That's not normally used to back up an OS. A better choice would be a large USB Flash Drive.
Or, an external Hard Drive.

Second ?, have you ever booted up your PC with an SD card before? Or, how would you boot up your PC, to do a Restore of what you backed up to a SD card?

Reinstalled, you said. ??? Why would you want to go through that rigamarole again? If an OS is properly backed up, after the original install, it takes only a few minutes to do a complete Restore, and be right back where you were after the original install. I've done it, more than once.

Sounds to this old tech, like you're making a rather simple job, a much harder one.

And, I'm just afraid that some of the answers you will get will make the job even more complicated and much harder,
and set you up for failure.

Good Luck,
TM
