Corrupt User account: migrate to new user?

For some reason my User account (the only one, this is a notebook) has ONE program that suddenly will not run correctly (AE in CS5) after working with no problems since it was installed.. This isn't an isolated case, there are many references to it on the web but no real solution..

I created a new user account just to test, and the program runs fine.. In fact, I'm pretty impressed at how fast everything is in the test account. I didn't realise how slow my account had become (only in relation to how fast the test account is)..

Should I migrate all my user documents/settings/etc to the new test account and delete my old account? Is there an easy migration path?

Or is it time to just re-format and re-install everything?

You can copy your old profile to the new profile. But sometimes this will migrate the problems you were facing in the old profile to the new clean profile.

I suggest instead of using the window's profile copy function, it is better to create a new user, start using it and slowly let the profile get settings, by setting up one application after another.

If your new user is crisp and the system is working quickly, there is no need to reinstall.

How can I copy over my Favorites?

I copied them from the old account to the new one, but I can't click on any
of them..

Assuming the favorites are for Microsoft Internet Explorer, you can copy them from C:\Users\"Old User"\Favorites to C:\Users\"New User"\Favorites, replacing "Old User" with your old user name and "New User" with your new user name.

If the Favorites are for other browsers, use the export command to export the favorites (bookmarks) from old user profile to a HTML file and then import them in to the browser in new user profile.

After copying the favorites check and correct the file attributes and file permissions of favorites so that you can open them by clicking on the links.

Is there a way to batch convert the permissions?

I can't click anything because they are all still owned by "old user"..

I can convert permissions one at a time, but can't seem to convert everything in the favorites folder..

Any way to do this?
