Solved cpu temp and fan

For some odd reason; my cpu temp is running extremely hot. By that i mean its at like 143*F plus. I changed my fan speed to try and cool it down and its not cooling down very much. I know its not overly dusty in there because I blew out all the dust just last week. This just started happening like this morning so i dont know if my fan utility is reporting a incorrect temp(s); or what the deal is. Thanks Matt

by the way; the only thing i can think of at this point is maybe the thermal paste has broken down too much.

I would just pull the cooler and clean both surfaces and remount with premium compound and retest for temps. Don't forget that most all TIM's will need a number of on off cycles to full cure.

yea; Im gonna have to do that anyways as Im getting the replacement cpu delivered to me today. Gonna carefully put that in; scrape any old paste off and just slap some new stuff on there and see what happens. Its probably the paste I would imagine because the stock paste thats put on the heat sink from the factory has been on there since I had this system first built. So I would imagine its probably broken down by now from the heat etc.

Please post all temps in C not F.

143 F = 62 C not great but it really depends what load is on the computer and the ambient air temp.

I actually have that one; and i ran that too; and that one also was pointing at a cpu temp in the orange and red zone for all 4 cores.

As for posting the temps. Its easier for me to use F because Im not foreign or anything. Its too hard for me to figure out how hot a given temp is in c. We dont use C here so to me it doesnt make sense to post it in C; even if the rest of the world does. See the link below

To convert F to C, subtract 32 from the F reading & divide the result by 1.8 will give you the C equivalent.

EG. 154F minus 32 = 122 divided by 1.8 = 67.7C.

As for the time being; I may be shutting down here for a little bit so i can pull the old cpu out and put the new one in and before i do; i will make sure new paste is on the heat sink. Its possible however that the box the new one came in has a new fan with new heat sink and new paste on it. But i still might get rid of that paste and put better stuff on it. Stuff that will hopefully last longer.

Instead of you posting in C you want all your helpers to use some sort of chart to convert the temp from F to C.

As mentioned it really isn't a crazy hot temp. but I would re-apply TIM and re-visit a complete fan/filter and case cleaning. Remember when seating the cooler to use a light and even tightening and a rest period to let the TIM work it's oozing magic then a good snugging up but not over-tightening and then let it cycle on and off for a few days and cure up.

I use Artic Silver 5 and here are guidelines for application (depends on CPU)
Arctic Silver, Inc. - Intel® Application Methods
Too much thermal paste is bad so don't slap it on. The reason they typically use a thin line of paste is to initially cover all the CPU cores. The paste will spread further once the CPU heats up.
Also, make sure both contact surfaces (CPU lid and heat sink) are very clean using high purity isopropyl alcohol and lint free wipes. Coffee filters are good lint free wipes. Small fibres or bits of old paste will affect performance.

What gives bear? whats up with have a nice day? I mean i was simply stating that I dont understand c very well as much as others may. I dont see what the big deal is posting in f.

On another note; Sure enough it was the thermal paste. As soon as i pulled the fan off i could see it was all goopy like looking; as in like it was sorta dried out etc.; so; as i soon as i put the new cpu in that i received today; i put new thermal paste on; checked the temps and they were way way down. So problem solved there. As for the bsod's; well i still have yet to try and do another stress test and see if the cpu was in fact the issue. but i will get to it when i have a moment. Im marking this one as solved since it has been solved.

I'm "not foreign or anything" either but the whole world speaks of PC temps in Celsius. Even the Specy program you have puts it in C. You can post it anyway you like, but don't expect much help.

Bottom line as soon as I put new thermal paste on.....the temps took a nose dive. Therefore
Problem solved.
