Create a .txt file of the results after running chkdsk!

Is there any way of extracting the results/details [command line/batch file, not PowerShell] of a chkdsk run that can be saved as a .txt file on the desktop.

I know that it can be viewed in Event Viewer [wininit] etc which is not what I want. I want to extract the results/details and save it as a .txt file on the desktop.

I don't want to go to Event Viewer [Actions > Save All Events As > .txt Format > Save etc] and then save a .txt file from there either!

Hello Paul Black,

If you want CHKDSK results from the command line, then you can redirect the output to a text file when you execute the CHKDSK command. Like so:

chkdsk H: > C:\users\user1\desktop\chkdsk_report.txt​

I use this way to make a text file of the results shown in command prompts :



So, What we need to do is :
1. Click the command prompt icon on the left top of any command prompt window.
2. When you click it will open a menu, choose EDIT & select Select All, Mark as you want.
3. Then click Ctrl + C to copy it to the clip board.
4. Open a text file, paste the matter & save the file.
That's All!

You have to specify a location for chkdsk.txt where you have write permissions.

I had tried that yesterday [chkdsk C: /R > C:\chkdsk.txt] but for some reason it didn't work!

The reason it failed, obviously now thinking about it, is because there is no way to incorporate the extra parameter [/R] when creating the .txt file. This is because it invokes a restart which wipes out the latter part of the command [> C:\chkdsk.txt].


The output is not pretty but all the information/results are there!
I will have a play around with formatting the output into one column tomorrow instead of rows!
