Custom short-cuts in XP mode...

I was wondering if it was possible to make a short cut on my Windows 7 Desktop for the Windows Media Player 10 in my XP mode??? I can't stand MP 11 nor 12... and if I could do this one thing, then this will be perfect. If not, I can just boot up XP mode... but a short cut would be the cherry on top for this setup.

Yes it is possible!
Just do these in XP mode if u want to run XP mode applications directly from Windows 7 without invoking Virtual PC:
1. Install the software in XP mode.
2. Create a short cut
3. Right click on Start and select All users
4. Goto Start Menu>Programs under All users
5. Paste the shortcut.

Now go to Start>All programs>Windows Virtual PC>Windows XP Mode Applications
there you will find the link for XP mode application.



If u are done u should have a screen like this!!

I did everything and I still don't have Windows Media Player 10 on my XP Mode menu under Windows 7.

Sorry for delayed response,

In XP virtual machine do this:

1. Install WMP 10 in XP mode

2. Type "regedit" (without quotes) in run

3. Navigate to the following path "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Virtual Machine\VPCVAppExcludeList"

4. Delete the key named "wmplayer.exe" in the list of keys.

5. Reboot the XP Virtual machine.

6. Create shortcut in the VM as described in my above post.

Voila!! You should be able to get a screen like this

launch the appln!! njoy!!

PS: Can delete the keys you like in the above mentioned path in registry to allow native win XP applications to be published in Windows 7 Start menu.

Please take a backup of registry keys b4 deleting.
