Customizing taskbar

Hi all,

There are a couple of things I would really love to change about the behaviour of the windows 7 task bar. I would basically love to come back to the behaviour of XP for those issues, but I can't find out how to do it:

-If you place your mouse over one of the task bar icos, it shows a small window showing it. I don't really need that, and I find it distracting.

-Sometimes (depending on the colours of the windows, etc) it can be hard to know which window you are using at the moment. It is just a bit brighter than the others, which might be not enough to identify it at a first glance. It was much easier to identify in XP and I would love to come back to that if possible.

Any help would be welcome!

Ok, an easier one: do these things also happen in windows 8 and 10? In linux? I miss my XP too much, I really dislike these (and other) features of W7, and not sure what to do with my OS.

Here's how to disable taskbar thumbnail previews

Taskbar Thumbnail Previews - Enable or Disable

Try classicshell for a retro windows look.
Classic Shell: Downloads

I prefer a win98 look myself, which I do with classicshell and the win98 shell32.dll icons. You download the shell32.dll file from here...

Download shell32. at www.dll-downloads.com

then rename it to win98shell32.dll, then replace your desktop and quicklaunch icons with those in that file (see how here... Desktop Icon Settings Shortcut - Create ), then anyone using your machine will think they're on win98. Or if you really insist on something new like windows xp, you can do the same with the winxp shell32.dll here

Shell32.dll download - OriginalDLL.com
