Solved Default Win 7 Icons

Hello guys

While browsing i came across s Master Icon set, i tried following mr grimms instrustions to install those icons using Iconpackager. However i didn't realize that it would mess up the other icons (for files i.e - .txt, .jpeg, .bat...etc)

Now i just want to set the default icons that came with win7, i do not want to manually add images for each of those files. And im sure there is a way that this can be done easily.

Hi,

As these icons are held in a system DlLL you may want to try runnin system file check repair as the MAY notice the changes and reset the relevant DLL, Although I have not actually tried this so it may not work

Hi,

The easiest way would be to replace the files from a clean install (if you do not have backups made before the changes).

If you list the files that have been modified plus the build number and x86 or x64. I'm sure some kind member would zip them up and post them here

Well i resorted to using system restore, so now everything is good and the icons are default but i had to sacrifice my anti-virus program

btw do you have custom icons? i still would like to customize my icons but i don't want to go thru this again, any suggestions?

Hi Glad to hear you have things sorted interesting to note that the system restore worked when the SFC did not, a good illustration of the difference between the two methods

I personally do not have custom items, have not got tired of the defaults yet .

If you are going to change system files the best fall back solution would be to manually backup any file you change, to a separate location, before starting, I would personally also perform a manual restore point before any work of this nature. This would allow you to replace individual files that go wrong or the complete set, without affecting any other programs
