hi guys,

In the recent times, quite frequently, when i restart or shutdown windows 7, i get a message saying that windows is waiting for task host window to close...

if i leave it there, it takes like 10 seconds and then it restarts / shuts down. the thing is the PC is not doing anything or playing videos, etc.

is there a way to find out what "Task" is causing this? PC is running fine, 24-25% ram used (6GB Ram)..

someone suggested system sounds, i have all of them disabled and system set to No Sounds. shall i play with it on and off?

I am going to try https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/975777

many thanks,
gabrio

Mine does the same thing, the message also says it is shutting down background programs. Could be anything which is started automatically at boot up but runs in the background.

The hotfix you provided a link to is from 2011. If they haven't fixed it by now you can forget it. I suggest that when you restart or shut down, you do 15 jumping jacks and call it a great day.
