Difficult to connect to Internet with Win 7

My Internet connectivity was great with XP but after upgrading to the released version of Windows 7 Home Professional I can connect only with difficulty.

Before my computer will connect to the Internet I have to go to the Network and Sharing Center, then disable all Internet connections, then enable the Internet.

After a power on/off cycle I find I cannot connect to the Internet without going back to the Network and Sharing center and disable/reenable again.

Its a pain so I would like to get the Internet connection to stick.

Here is a Core2Duo with Asus motherboard and 2G of RAM. Internet connection is broadband and the computer is connected to the router via Ethernet.

Even when I can't connect to the Internet the web browser can talk to the router. And other computers serviced by the router connect to the Internet just fine.

And yes I used the windows update to check for updates of both windows 7 and my drivers.

Hope someone can help

David

Please add more detail to your system specs. Asus makes quite a few motherboards, and there are quite a few versions of Windows 7, not to mention there's 32 and 64 bit versions.

This forum is full of users having various connection issues with Windows 7 using the same hardware that worked perfect in XP or Vista.

Unfortunately there have been no answers.

My guess is Windows 7 and/or various Ethernet drivers have bugs.

However some users connect just fine and no-one knows why.

I suggest that you also post to the official MS support forums where MS personel monitor the problems.

Can you please post a link to the official MS support forums. In the past I read the Usenet news groups for MS issues but I don't seem to be able to read them anymore. Maybe Verizon (my ISP) stopped supporting them.

Please add this to your profile information. The link in my profile has instructions.

Do you have the latest BIOS installed? Have you visited Asus and downloaded the drivers for your P5?

I think it's answers.microsoft.com. They have a W7 connectivity forum.
