Hello,

I recently updated from Vista (Home) to Windows 7 (Ultimate) and I'm noticing a lot of problems with my PC, mainly with the booting. Booting takes a long time, around 3 minutes (desktop is not crowded) and after that the screen might freeze up right after so I have to turn the power off and back on and even with that other problems might occur.... for example the screen might not turn on even though the CPU is running, so I have to restart the computer againnn  and same thing might happen a few more times so that loop can last up to 10 minutes in total and it's really frustrating. And finally once everything is finally running my PC tends to sleep randomly and doesn't wake up unless I turn the computer off and back on. Any clue as to how to fix this.

Thank you

Hi The2nd,

When you say updated, do you mean upgraded, or a complete re-install with Windows 7 using either a DVD or USB?

Have you looked on the MB website for the latest drivers etc? The main ones are the Audio, LAN, Chipset, USB and Graphics Card [if it has an integrated graphics card]. Obviously the drivers for Windows 7 will be different from those for Windows Vista!

I hope this helps!

Hi The2nd,

Just checked and my computer is no longer supported by HP.
What you want are the Windows 7 drivers for your computer [Motherboard] etc. Have you looked on their website for the drivers?

I hope this helps!

Open device manager. Is there any yellow alert of missing driver?

Lets do the basic first.
- Run check disk
Open a CMD window and type chkdsk c: /f
It will say that drive is in use and if you want to schedule to next start = yes
Reboot
Pay attention on the results, specially bad blocks or bad clusters.

- Do a system file check
Open a CMD window and type sfc /scannow
