DirectX Runtime -- where do I put CAB files?

I bet this is the wrong forum, but I wasn't really sure where to post.

I recently downloaded Media Player Classic and was told that I needed to install DirectX Runtime June 2010 or later to make it run properly. I didn't know which folder to install it in, so I chose 'Download'. I later noticed that there were over 150 CAB files and an .exe file in my 'Download' folder. I have now put all these in a special folder, still housed within the 'Download' folder

My question is: Are all the CAB files really necessary? I ran the .exe file and DirectX Runtime is now set up on my PC, so can I delete the CAB files (most of them from 2005-2009)? If not, can I move the folder I created to somewhere else? Where would be the best location?

You should be able to delete these without problems as these are only the DirectX packages that were downloaded. When you executed the installer, the contents were extracted and written to the appropriate directory(ies).

Thanks for the reply, Dwarf. I just tried to run Media Classic Player and I keep getting the message telling me to install Directx Runtime. You wouldn't happen to know what might be wrong, would you?

I take it you downloaded the offline installer, a whole 95MB download? If you run the web installer, it will place the applications in the proper places. Be sure and untick the bing toolbar in the installation (unless you want it). If the installer tells you it found a newer or equivalent version already installed, then DirectX is indeed installed.
