Disabling UAC... wow

I seem to get loads of issues when I disable UAC it's incredible!

Gadgets not working, firefox refreshing pages randomly, adobe reading returning blank errors, etc...

anybody else got similar experience?

I've heard that from more than one source. Irregular operation of different programs/processes. This may be one of the things that the beta version hasn't quite fixed yet. I believe there is 4 settings, off, 1, 2 and 3 (3 being max). The system defaults to the #2 position. Even with the #2 position, I'm not getting even close to the amount of UAC prompts that I was getting with Vista. Your system should run fine with #2. When later beta versions are released, hopefully the UAC will resume normal operations in all settings.

Hello all.

More and more apps/progs are being written with UAC in mind; it will become increasingly difficult for Windows OSs to operate correctly with UAC disabled. When one installs something and it has been written to "look" for UAC and it can't find it, it doesn't know what to do. (to be simplistic) Everyone may as well get used to leaving it at default so that "things" will run correctly.

That is actually somewhat true, some programs can screw up if you "change" your UAC setting after you install the program. This was true on Vista too.

IMO there is no real dire need to turn UAC off anymore. If you want to turn it down 1 more level well that's fine, but like everyone else I even left mine at the stock level 2 and its absolutely fine.

You can also tweak these settings by going into Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy and then click on Security Options. Towards the bottom of the list of items are the UAC options.

Better to disable prompting if thats what annoys you. Even better to leave it enabled, but if you want to disable prompting try the tip outlined in this blog-post:
