Hi, I left my Pc on standby last night, there were no signs that the computer was broken in any way. I started it up by hitting one of the keyboard keys and it came up with a blue screen of death which I didn't take note of. After I restarted my pc and now it looks like it can't find the OS. I have tried to system restore but it won't let me. And I have also tried choosing a system image backup but it still won't let me. Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kyle

Hello Kyle!

What kind of boot drive do you have? What model is it? Is there another storage device in your PC?

Start your PC up and check if you see the boot drive in BIOS. If not, power down the PC, open it up change the cables and port, start up again.

Good luck!

I see my boot drive is set to the Hard disk. I know my OS is installed onto my SSD which is a zalman F series model SSD0120F1. And I have a seagate barracuda 2tb hard drive model ST2000DM001.

You mean that your HDD is set as boot drive in the BIOS? But your OS is on a SSD? Can you try and change the boot order and try again? Does your SSD appear at all?

For the first boot device it says hard disk and yes my OS is on the SSD which should be C: drive. I have messed with the boot order but no luck. And the SSD doesn't show in the boot devices I believe. I will try and get a pic for you.

Actually "Hard Disk Boot Priority" would be the place to set your drive boot order. Does the SSD show under that section?

Yes, thank you, a screenshot would be very helpful!

The BIOS is the first step/check for the system when it starts. If your SSD isn't showing in the BIOS, your PC can't start as that is where your OS is.

As @doctore said, this is for your boot order, you need to set your boot/OS drive – the SSD, as first, but for that it needs to be detected by BIOS.

If it's not, it could be either the cables, or the certain motherboard port, or the device itself has died.
Please check the cables, replace them with new working ones, if you have to, and try again!

Good luck!

looks like it's only showing my HDD in there. I have also swapped the blue sata cables with my HDD to my SSD to see if it worked and also the sata ports. I guess my SSD has died then?

You are saying that your HDD uses SATA cables, but it shows as SCSI in your bios... Try resetting your bios (if you don't have a button for it, unplug the PC, discharge by pressing the power button, then remove the CMOS battery for a few minutes, put the battery back and boot).

Yes, I agree with @doctore, remember to be careful with the CMOS battery when putting it back, pay attention to the + and – signs. After putting the battery in, press the power button of the PC for 15 seconds to discharge any remaining power stored in the capacitors. By discharging the power, the CMOS memory will reset, therefor should reset the BIOS.

If that doesn't work, your other option would be to check the SSD on another system (PC) and see if it boots there.
If it doesn't work then too, the SSD is most probably dead, I'm sorry.

I did what you said with the cmos battery and it come up with cmos error and I chose my dad's profile he made of the bios and it's going to the disk failure screen again.. I will have to get my dad to look at it, but I think the SSD has died on me.

I've come to a conclusion, I used the power and sata cables from the Hard drive and tested it on the SSD and it just wasn't picking it up at all. I did have a few similar issues with this Zalman f1 when the pc was first built. It sometimes came up with loading operating system before the windows screen and it would stay there, restarts fixed that problem until it never showed up again. Overall it was a good SSD card while it lasted as it gave maximum performance for my OS. Sadly it was only two years old..

Hi again!

I am sorry for this, seems really like the SSD has died. This is what happens with hardware and technology, they're built to withstand as long as possible but are very delicate and sometimes break sooner than we think.

I hope you don't encounter such a problem again, good luck for the future!
