DNS server not responding

Alright here is my problem. First of all my laptop is wireless, and my desktop that is directly connected to my router works fine. Every time I visit certain sites on my laptop or try to download software, my browser says it cannot connect to that server. I use Firefox, but it also happens with IE, so I ran my network diagnostic and it comes up with the following: 1) Your computer appears to be correctly configured but the device or resource is not responding and 2) Security or firewall settings might be blocking the connection. Yesterday it also said something about the DNS server not responding but is not saying that now. I have restarted my router and made sure my wireless drivers are up to date. I do not know why my firewall or security settings would be blocking it, because I have did nothing to any of my settings lately. Other than that my internet seems to be working fine, maybe a little slow but I'm not sure. I'm almost positive it cannot be the websites servers, because I have visited a few different sites and still get the same thing. I'm lost. If anyone could help me, it would be very much appreciated. If you need anymore info let me know. Thanks.

I have tried to ping one of the sites I was trying to access but it wouldnt work, however other sites are fine. The only thing in the IPCONFIG/ALL that was different from the example was my DNS server which was 10.0.0.1. Everything else checks out with the aforementioned example.
