Hi! Do small tablets like Ipads, etc. that don't have a Windows system, get viruses? I already ordered one 7" android kind from Ebay, for one of my kindergarten-aged grandchildren. But would like to get another one so that both of our grandchildren have ways to play educational games on them. Or do you think it's better to get a laptop with a Windows 10 system on it, for them to use for that? What's your opinion? I got a package of Stylus pens too - to help make it easier for them to do things on the small screens. It's possible to download educational apps from Google, or etc. But maybe some cost something - I'll find out with time. How many free educational game apps do you think would fit on a small tablet and what do you think would be too few Gbs? Thanks!:D

Yes they can but since Windows is a much bigger target, most viruses are aimed there where they can do the most damage and spread more easily.

Malware and Trojan Horse infections are more prevalent on Android.

IMO, people that buy Android tablets with only 16 GB of memory will very likely regret that decision. It's hard to say how many apps will fit on a particular device but it's safe to say more memory is better. If possible, buy a tablet that the memory can be expanded via adding a micro SD card.

Hi, Strollin! Thanks so much for giving me your insight on this! It will help make it easier to make the decision of just what kind to buy.

There are quite a few preschool age aimed apps on Android ...

10 best free Android apps for kids | TechRadar

the link shows a few

One thing is as stated above more memory the better - with tablets it's often the case that a 32GB unit will be only a little more expensive

as an example of how things have spiralled upwards I have 128GB in my phone and have also added a 128GB Fast MicroSD Its a long way from where I began learning to program in in a few Kilobytes :D

Thanks, Barman! I will keep what you said in mind, too! I will have to talk it over with their parents today too - to hear their opinions on what they want. One thing Marie wants, is for them to be able to work on such educational games in times when they go to town in their truck. But other times, they are able to do that kind of thing at home, too. It might be that the mini kind would be less clumsy in the truck, being small and held by kindergarteners. But maybe a larger, windows one could be used at home for the benefit of it's larger screen. We are considering getting a refurbished on through Walmart, if we do get a windows one. Or maybe we can get both - the smaller kind for the truck - and maybe the larger kind with windows - for home.

I have several windows devices (currently three PCs and a laptop), and I am also an Android user with Two and a half Phones (long story One is falling apart but working), and a 7 inch Nexus 7 and a 10 Inch Samsung Tablet (set up with a hardware Keyboard and case).

I use the Tablets around the apartment and when travelling, choosing the largest I can get away with I also use the Laptop when travelling as a mobile Image processor for my Photography.

The phones and the tablets all have more or less the same apps on them so it's just a matter of the usage that decides which I use - The other thing with Android apps is you can purchase some apps with additional features or upgrade the free versions for small fees, a couple of dollars, and then install and use them on multiple devices as long as they are registered to the same Google account - may be a good idea if you go android to create an account to control all the devices used by the little ones, and of course you will have full parental controls to ensure their safety from the internet
