Don't want to remove programs from CCleaner startup again and again

Unfortunately link to "StartupEye" on the blog leads to CNet ... hiding behind "downloads.cnet.com"
(powered by CNet in very small print, unless you check the URL)

I have downloaded two files, different sizes, different names from "downloads.cnet.com" depending on which link I selected. :devil:
Both passed OK by Bitdefender and Malwarebytes

StartupEye_Setup1.exe ... 763 KB .. 7 files
cbsidlm-tr1_14-StartupEye-BP-75447990.exe ... 570 KB ... 64 files
How lucky do I feel ??

The "How to Stop Programs From Adding Themselves to Windows Startup" blog looks credible enough.
Thought I should warn others who might not be in the know about CNet

Just a little note:
Some programs will add themselves back in Startup and Services every time they are updated manually or automatic.
After updating of such programs you should take a look back in Startup and Services.

Cnet (download.com) can be a credible source, you just need to make sure its a direct download and not the "cnet installer enabled". I hate that they do that now. I just choose the direct download option, sorry I did not make this clear.

Also, I did forget to include services as well. Thanks jacee! I have found though that even this way the evil itunes and adobe reader seem to throw themselves back into startup. This is why I don't use them.
This way usually does though stop the offending program from being a nuisance.
IF you want a service to still run but not slow down your boot time as much, choose automatic delayed start. This is great for when you want a service to run, but after the main core services are loaded.

Also wanted to note that before spybot went to crap, it had a resident called teatimer which was great for monitoring your registry and startup programs. You can still download an old version of it on the safer networking website.

I quiet using Cnet downloads after testing. Sometimes when you un-select some items you still get them.

Succesfully located genuine "StartupEye.exe" ... or so I thought
Scanned download with Bitdefender Internet Security + Malwarebytes -- all clean

Ran "StartupEye.exe" but Bitdefender leapt to the front ... "Virus detected" :shock:
Virus name:= "Adware.Solimba.S"
Drilled down to "bad" file "C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\ins6890\ins6898.exe
... but EXE file is not there.

Searched web for the virus name ie, "Adware.Solimba.S"
Found this description of "Adware.Solimba.S" virus

So have to abandon all hope I had for "StartupEye"
.. after two risky downloads from CNet and the supposedly good "StartupEye.exe" ...

I use Winpatrol, but I just downloaded StartupEye from Softpedia and sent the exe to Virus Total

Mind, I didn't run the installer. Since Virus Total found the Hash, the installer is good. I did choose to rescan, same results. I suspect Bitdefender is reacting to the way the program must work to do what it does. It's actions no doubt appear virus like to Bitdefender.

My download "StartupEye.exe" (ex FileHippo) when evaluated by Virus Total, drew 9 negatives.
FileHippo surprised me. ​

Russell, if you like Virus Total, you might want to install the uploader, which I have installed since it came out. Just right click on any file> Send to> Virus Total. Couldn't be easier
