Drag & Drop 'Creates Links'

I created the album files manually through Explorer.

Could it perhaps be something to do with them all coming from an old computer via external HD? I can't play some of the albums because of media usage rights, which wasn't a problem before.

I have no clue if this is relevant, but there you go.

Wait, what do you mean by album files? Are they folders or not? What is their extension? If they are just a file, how do they contain albums of music?

Some are albums which, when opened, lead to the song titles. Others are folders containing multiple albums by the same artist.

I am perhaps getting myself muddled up now, so apologies.

Opened by what? You double click on it and what happens?

Please post a screenshot of these albums and folders.

A small section:

Double-clicking brings up the tracks ready to play through Media Player.

If there are multiple albums then double clicking takes you to the choice of albums e.g. 'Explosions in the Sky':

Double-clicking on any album obviously brings up the tracks.

And you aren't using any other third party music manager other than Windows Media Player?

None. I have VLC but it's never used for music and it was downloaded long after this problem started.

Ok, those all just appear to be folders with the Album cover as the icon. Did you do the "take ownership" of the Audio folder yet?

I did - nothing doing.

I have just discovered that if I go through Personal Folder > My Music > Audio, I can copy the files over fine. The problem arises when I go through Libraries > Music > Audio.

I have no idea why, but at least I can copy files now. Thanks a bunch for all your help.

Libraries sometimes have symlinked folders in there (i.e. you have a music folder on a separate drive that you add to your library and it now shows up in the libraries folder like it's local to that drive). Perhaps that could have been a problem, but I have no clue why. None of this adds up to me, but glad it's working somehow.

Don't drag and drop. Do exactly these steps: right click on the file then select copy then go to the folder you want to put the file in and right click inside the folder in the white space and select paste. It will work. It is not a permission problem. I think it is a bug.
