Dual monitors keep reverting to default positions

I have been using 2 monitors side by side for quite a while now without issues, but recently I did a bunch of driver updates because for some reason run32.dll was taking up a huge percentage of my CPU. I read on another forum that this is sometimes caused by drivers failing to update.

After the update, my monitors keep switching round every time I boot, and every time I open any full screen program/game.

It isn't immediately obvious because things don't actually go from one monitor to the other, but their relative positions to each other have swapped, so if i move my mouse off the edge between the monitors, nothing happens. instead to get my cursor to the other screen, I have to move it to the outside edge.

Now I can do a temporary fix, just by going into resolution settings and dragging the display back into the correct position, but that only lasts until I open another fullscreen game or restart my computer.

You can guess this is getting pretty irritating.

Another similar, but unrelated problem I have been having for much longer, is that every time I boot the computer, or even resume from hybernate, the "enhance pointer precision" option re-enables itself in the mouse settings. Another big annoyance since I hate it being on.

Edit: it is very similar to the problem in this thread that was never solved because the poster went and got himself banned

Oh and I have tried using Nvidia's control panel to set them up instead but that doesn't even detect one of the monitors.

Have you tried uninstalling your video drivers, rebooting and the installing the most stable recent version? Some drivers just don't take well to "updating".

Tried that, still have the problem :(

I have physically switched over the cables, but I wouldn't really call that a solution.

Is there anything else that may be causing it?

Also, this where things get really strange, after switching the cables, I found an EXTREME performance drop in games. as in going from >100FPS to <10. I had tested it after reinstalling the drivers with Bioshock Infinite and performance was fine, so I know it isn't a driver issue. Nothing in the resource monitor is unusually high so I have no idea what is happening.

Edit: Actually I do know what is happening with the performance issue. one of the cables is VGA and goes to the motherboard port instead of through the graphics card, as the card has no VGA port.

now the problem has changed. Instead of swapping the positions round, it changes which monitor is my main monitor, which is even worse. Seriously windows?

Hi Moikle,
I don't know about NVidia, but ATI CCC (v. 14.12) was doing some strange stuff with my multi-monitor set up. After finding no solutions, I tried Display Fusion and I am really liking it. It doesn't solve all issues, but between CCC and DF, I've been able to work around all my Multi-monitor problems.
Regards,
JohnPC

Dual screen arrangement reverts / not saved (Windows 10)

For an unknown reason (Windows 10 regular update? / Asus automatic update? / manually and erroneously disabling a service?), the position of my external DELL monitor (HDMI) in the "Display Settings" had reverted to its "default" position after restarting the computer on the next morning. Changing its position by dragging it into the desired location in "Display Settings" and hitting "Apply" always reverted it to its "default" position instead of saving its new position.

Solution on an Asus Taichi 21 (running Windows 10, 64-bit): End or disable the 'Asus Taichi Display Control' in the Task Scheduler:

a. Click on Start; in the start search type 'Task Scheduler' and press Enter.
b. In the 'Task Scheduler Library', select 'Asus Taichi Display Control'.
c. Right click and select 'End' or 'Disable'.

This should have an immediate effect and let allow you to arrange the displays/monitors/screens in their desired positions permanently.
