dvi to d-sub convertors - do they work?

Good morning all,

I want to plug an old monitor with a d-sub connector to one of the spare sockets of my dual dvi graphics card. Can i just buy one of those dvi to d-sub convertors from Maplins, connect it in-line between my d-sub monitor and my spare dvi output socket?

Or do i need more specialist hardware?

Yes, I have a couple of old 15" CRT monitors hooked up that way
