EAP-TTLS securew2

I did a quick search but couldn't find anything.

I am trying to use windows 7 build 7000 32 bit for connecting to my school network as I find working on Windows 7 much easier than vista or xp. The school says to use securew2 which works fine for me on vista. The network uses EAP-TTLS with PAP to connect. When I go to setup the network authentication method the securew2 option is not in the drop down menu to select which I need to configure all the settings. I have tried to install securew2 with compatability mode under vista and xp and always installing as admin. Is there a way to do this with a different piece of software? Is there a workaround for choosing a different authentication method? So i need somehow to connect with 802.1X authentication and EAP-TTLS with PAP inner authentication

Thanks

Flipper PA thanks a lot for that. It worked for me with a little tweak to that guide in step 2 the command didn't work for me but it was something small I changed which a blurb will be given in cmd to tell you that its wrong and what to fix.

Thanks again

Any chance I could get a copy of that XML file? I don't have a working copy of Vista so I still haven't been able to get it running correctly! I'm guessing I'd have to manually edit the XML file, but could easily import it to the 7 beta. Maybe attach the XML file you generated here as a .txt attachment? That'd be a big help to everyone!

Ok I have attached the xml file as a txt document. Hopefully you can edit it and get it to work for you. If you need anything else let me know and I can try to help out

Thank you! This should help, I just need to convert my SSID to hex, from a cursory glance! :) I'll report more later.

Huh, I'm gettnig a Profile format error 0x80001 when I try to add with netsh: The profile is invalid according to the schema. The network connection profile is corrupted. I can't see anything wrong in the XML, I'll keep playing, but if anyone else can post their XML file as a source, it'd be appreciated! :)

I had that error too. What solved it for me was that I had actually forgot to install the securew2 on my windows 7 partition. So after I installed that and then imported it, it worked. Hopefully its something as easy as that.

I'm pretty sure I need TTLS - if anyone has the correct definition for the XML file (or a separate for TTLS rather than EAP), help would be great! Thanks, ab111.

Hey gang, I figured mine out, and here's how, just in case anyone is still having problems... you'll need to know your wireless network SSID, as well as your authentication server (referred to throughout as YourNetwork and auth.yourwork.com)... and it didn't even required that I do the XML export/import:

  1. Download http://www.securew2.com/resources/SecureW2_EAP_Suite_113.zip - the EAP Suite v 1.13, and install it. Most likely, you'll have to restart Windows 7 after the install.
  2. After reboot, click the Windows start button, then Control Panel. The Control Panel opens.
  3. In the left pane, click Control Panel Home, then in the right pane under the Network and Internet section click View network status and tasks.
  4. In the left pane, click Manage wireless networks. A list of previously connected wireless networks appears.
  5. If YourNetwork appears in the list, double-click the YourNetwork icon and go to step 12. Otherwise, proceed to the next step.
  6. Click Add.
  7. Click Manually create a network profile. A dialogue box appears.
  8. In the Network name: field, type YourNetwork
  9. In the Security type: drop-down box, select 802.1x.
  10. Click Next. The message 'Successfully added YourNetwork' should appear.
  11. Click Change connection settings. The YourNetwork Wireless Network properties dialogue box appears.
  12. Click the Security tab.
  13. Ensure the settings are as follows:
    • Security type: 802.1x
    • Encryption type: WEP
    • Choose a network authentication method: SecureW2 EAP-TTLS
    • Check the Cache user information for subsequent connections to this network check box
  14. Click Settings...
  15. Click New and enter YourNetwork. Click OK.
  16. In the Connection tab, ensure the Use alternate outer identity checkbox is selected, and the Use anonymous outer identity radio button is selected.
  17. Ensure the Enable session resumption (quick connect) checkbox is selected.
  18. In the Certificates tab, ensure the Verify server certificate checkbox is selected, then click Add CA. Locate and highlight Thawte Premium Server CA then click Add CA.
  19. Ensure the Verify server name: checkbox is selected, then enter auth.yournetwork.com in the corresponding field.
  20. In the Authentication tab, for the Select Authentication Method: drop-down menu, ensure PAP is selected.
  21. Click Advanced.
  22. Ensure the Allow users to setup new connections checkbox is selected.
  23. Click OK to close each open dialogue box.
