Error message when formating a sata3 hdd

Hi,

I've bought a new HDD Seagate 1Tb, but i didin't notice that it was Sata 3. Ok, seeing that i can place it on sata 2 connectors. The problem is that when i format it in the "fast formatting" way it formats it all right or it looks like to be formatted. Now, when i try to format it not using the "fast way" it seems to format it but windows shows this message: "Disk Formatting not Successfully" What could be doing that? This HDD will be used for storing data, not for system.

One more thing i've found weird is that i can access the disk, so it's been recognized by the system.

Are you formatting through ''my computer'' or in disk management?

Why were you formatting a new HDD with no data in it?
Go to disk management and create a new volume within it, it's most likely that the drive has only unallocated space and you tried to format something that doesn't even exist.

I've formatted using both methods. I usually format a blank disk just to be sure that there's nothing wrong with the disk as well as to verify its compatibility with the system, mainly if it's going to be used for storing. 'Cause sometimes just after having backed up your files the disk may have problems that could damage your files.

I just wanted to be sure that this sort of error is commom before saving my files to it. I can access the disk, copy files to it as well as copy files from it. So, would it be possible that this message is displayed because win 7 doesn't have the sata 3 drivers updated?

Hm, it could be. However I do know mechanical HDD's don't really take advantage of Sata 3 6Gbp/s, and backwards compatibility should not even be noticed.

Perhaps the volume is too big to have a quick format performed in it, has it been successful in other hard drives?
Why don't you try writting some disposable information into the drive and then perform a formatting and see what happens?

Well, actually i've bought without noticing it was a Sata 3. It's the so called "i'm in a hasty". Now, if it's better than sata 2, i just can't tell. Perhaps, i say perhaps because i've never tried it personally, if a body got a mobo compatible with sata 3 it may increase its performance. There's was a guy that made the test and posted in you tube, if my mind doesn't trick me. As far as i could see it only increased the speed around 30 or 40 seconds comparing to a sata 2 HDD.

I have some others 1tb and 2tb capacity drivers and i don't remember having received the same display message when i formatted them.
