Error when trying to launch Group Policy Editor

Whenever I try to access anything Group Policy related, such as gpedit.msc or secpol.msc, this message pops up.



Unfortunately, I'm without eyesight, and my screen reader, NVDA, isn't showing me the error. I hope the screenshots came out alright. I also apologize if I pasted the same message twice, as the message pops up again when I click OK.

Welcome to the Forum.

Run the basic.
Open a CMD window as administrator and type:
chkdsk c: /f
It will say your disk is in use and ask if you want to schedule to next start = yes
Restart
Pay attention on the results, specially bad blocks, bad clusters, bad sectors etc

Back to Windows, open a CMD window as administrator and type:
sfc /scannow

Errors were found and fixed, but still no joy.

I ran sfc /scannow, and it said that corrupted files were found and successfully repaired. I rebooted the OS afterwards, but the GP error is still there. I then ran dism /Online /Cleanup-image /ScanHealth, which did not find any problems.
I didn't run checkdisk, though. Running checkdisk on a drive the size of mine would take virtually forever, and I don't see what this kind of error has to do with a dying hard drive.

chkdsk c: /f on a healthy drive will take only a few minutes (it only checks logical issues).

chkdsk c: /r will take hours as it checks every cluster on the disk.

Please run chkdsk c: /f

Are you running Win 7 or Win 10?

I'm running Windows 7, as stated in my profile.
I ran chkdsk /f, but nothing is showing up in the wininit logs in event viewer.

did you run chkdsk c: /f as instructed on post #2 and then rebooted?
