Excel 2019, build 1903.
Office start screen disabled (opens new spreadsheet).

1) Starting Excel initially using start menu = fast.
2) Ctrl + N = fast.
3) Clicking on Excel using start menu after Excel is already open = 3-4 second lag.

Word, Powerpoint etc don't experience this lag.

It's annoying because it also happens when opening additional spreadsheets, but it's not related to any of my spreadsheets since the lag occurs even when opening blank spreadsheets.

Since it's only happening with Excel, I wonder if it is related to a setting unique to Excel.
Excel 2016, didn't have this problem.

Hi Macomb, welcome to the Forum.

Have you tried running an Office repair. In Office 2013, which I use, open Control Panel, click on Programs & Features, scroll down to Microsoft Office, Right Click on it & select Change & this will open a couple of Repair options to try. Of course I am assuming Office 2019 is the same.

A different machine with Office 365 has the same problem.

There too it only happens with Excel.

Looks like it's a Microsoft bug since it happens on two different machines, one with Office 2019 and one with Office 365, and only in Excel.
