Explorer - NO column headers bar in details view

Attn All Concerned,

I have did a Repair Install last night and can confirm that this action has NOT restored the column headers bar in details view of WE.

Few hrs ago i returned again to the Folder View Settings - Reset All to Default link/post. Previously i have done Option One method (Use a REG File to Automatically Reset), which did not solve the problem. Today i have done Option Two method (Use the Registry to Manually Reset), which has SOLVED my problem and after the restart (as per p.14 of the tutorial) the column headers bar in details view is back.

Thanks to all who participated with ideas and suggestions.

Nicky

That's what I thought too.

Oh well, he's up and running and at least he didn't do the dreaded format.

Thank you too Brink for putting in that link before i got back to this post. Am glad to report that I also ran Option Two of Folder View Settings - Reset All to Default again and this time it worked. I must have not done it properly the first time i tried it. I think this is THE solution for this problem. Three gold stars and a koala stamp for Brink.

Solved for me as well

I've had this issue for a couple of months now and just couldn't get my search right to get a solution. Most of my search results were returning heated debated about the removal of the column headings from all the views other than details. I tried another search this morning and came upon this thread.

Kudos fto everyone responsible for the instructions on the "How to Reset All Folder View Settings to Default in Windows 7". I followed the manual solution and am happy to report my headings are back.

Cheers!

Easy pre-check

Hello every1,

I have found another very easy solution you can try before resetting the folder view settings. It probably does not work for everyone, but i worked for me.

Situation:
No header bar in windows explorer on one of my drives, just a day after a fresh windows install.

Unsuccessful actions:
  1. Opening the -change view- drop down menu on the upper right corner, changing it to -very large- and back to -details- :sarc:
  2. Closing all explorer's panes
  3. Rebooting

Successful action:
Opening the -change view- drop down menu on the upper right corner, changing the selection by scrolling all the way up to -very large- and back to -details-. Using the scroll button (or the keyboard's arrows), not by clicking! (Notice that it takes a few scrolls to reach the top, because of the resolution steps between the visible menu items). After that my -details- view was restored. :D

Conclusion:
From what I have experienced, I think (and I can be very wrong :p) the list numbering in the -change view- list has bugs. Because it showed me the -list- view when -details- was selected. But after visiting every item on that list, the -details- view was restored. All in all, very strange happening!

Column headers lost iff ClassicViewState enabled

After much time trying everything I could find here and elsewhere, to permanently restore column headers in Win7 Explorer details view (short of restore point or repair install), I've given up. Maybe someone can shed more light on this, or somehow use what I've learned...

I tried resetting of folder settings, with registry removal of Bags and BagsMRU (ala Windows_7_Reset_All_Folders_To_Default_Folder_Views.bat -- thanks, Shawn -- and even added more for good measure), did many registry exports (to compare what little I could fathom), various changes and restarts, etc., but nothing corrects it permanently, except if I change ClassicViewState back to 0 (the default; in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced).

I wanted ClassicViewState=1 so I can set a sort order on one folder, and have it instantly used for subsequent folders I view, without having the trouble of using Apply To Folders, like with good old XP. (As suggested at http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-desktop/windows-7-do-not-remember-folder-view/b88dfdbd-3491-4088-97a4-c620e17c6985 and elsewhere.) Is there a better way to do this than setting ClassicViewState? Is there a keyboard shortcut for Apply To Folders?

[ FYI, ClassicViewState=1 seems to work fine on a couple other user accounts on the same machine (so far), even after viewing photo folders, but on my account, I consistently lose the column headers in details view. Note that clearing Bags, etc., does bring my detail view back to normal, temporarily, but as soon as I view a folder of pictures, and then go back to another folder with details, the column headers are gone again. This might have all started after I made some other changes to thumbnail caching/location, or other Explorer tweaks, I am not certain. But reversing those changes doesn't seem to help. It does appear like a real bug, and I wish MS would fix it. ]
