explorer will not start after having ukash virus

last week i got the ukash virus. i did a restore point, ran several malware detection progams and have got rid of the virus but now explorer will not start flashes white then disappears.
i think the problem is some files were corrupted.
this is the missing files how do i find then and reinstall
any help appreciated thanks

Hmmmm....A file with the extension .mum is an update file that contains information Windows Update uses to execute a patch on your computer. I'm not sure that is the problem...

Can you provide where the report you posted came from? Was it generated by a specific tool?


On the explorer.exe issue, let's try the following:

:info: Press the keys: Ctrl, Shift and Esc at the same time.

When Task Manager appears, click the Applications tab, and select: New Task
Type cmd.exe into the Run box, and click: OK

At the blinking cursor of the Command Prompt, type the following text inside the quote box (do not copy the word Quote):

rename %systemroot%\system32\ explorer.exe x2explorer.exe

Press: Enter

Close the Command Prompt.

:info: When done renaming explorer.exe at the Command Prompt, press Alt and Tab to return to the Task Manager.
Click: New Task

Into the dialogue box, type: regedit

Click OK to open Registry Editor.
In Registry Editor...
Expand the following key by clicking on the > to the left of each of the following:

>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
>SOFTWARE
>Microsoft
>Windows NT
>Current Version
Winlogon

When you get to Winlogon, click on it, and in the right panel, right-click: Shell
Select: Modify
Enter: x2explorer.exe into the Value data
Click: OK

Restart the computer.

:info: Tap the F8 key as the computer restarts, and use the arrows on your keyboard to select:
Safe Mode with Networking
Press: Enter

:info: Now, follow up with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:
Download: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Download
Save to the Desktop
Right-click the downloaded MBAM file, and select: Run as Administrator

When the installation begins, follow the prompts in the setup process.
Do not make any changes to default settings, and, when the program has finished installing, make sure only the Update Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware options are checked.
Uncheck: Enable free trial of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO
Click on the Finish button.

If an update is found, the program automatically updates itself.
At the program console, on the Scanner tab, and select: Perform Full Scan
When the Select the Drives to scan appears, make sure all drives (except CD-Rom, DVD) are selected.

Next, click on the Scan button.

When the Malwarebytes scan is completed, click on: Show Results
When presented with a screen showing the malware detected, make sure everything is Checked, and click on: Remove Selected

When removal is completed, a report opens in Notepad.

:INFO: Restart your computer once again, and allow Windows to boot normally.

Right-click Start, then click: Open Windows Explorer
Navigate to the Windows folder.

Find and right-click x2explorer.exe, then select: Rename
Type explorer.exe, then press Enter to save your changes.

:info: Next, press the Windows key and the R key at the same time.
At the Run prompt, type regedit into the Open box.
Click OK

Return to the Winlogon Registry entry (as above).
Change the Value data field in Shell back to: explorer.exe
Click: OK

Restart your computer.

hi,
when i tried to rename it came up with: system cannot find the file specified
i also forgot to say after having the virus explorer wasn't running properly so i tried uninstalling and reinstalling explorer and now it wont reintstall

Give this a whirl...

Before renaming the explorer.exe file in the Command Prompt, please do the following:

Open Task Manager
Click the Processes tab
Look for and right-click explorer.exe
Click: End Process

Retry the steps above.

On this issue, are you talking about your Browser, Internet Explorer?
